The Web Site Companion
Searchin' the Web is a class for reference librarians who would like to feel more comfortable and confident using the Internet to answer reference questions. While the key ingredients in attaining this goal are practice and patience, I believe that reference librarians already possess most of the skills they need. The class is offered as opportunity to work together, in a step-by-step fashion, finding answers for actual reference questions.
This Web site is intended as a companion to the class. Here you will find expanded electronic versions of the class handouts, with all of the sites mentioned in class (and more!) as hypertext links.
Pep Talk reiterates what was said in class, providing links to resources mentioned.
Search Helps is the menu for finding additional resources divided by categories: Ready Reference Shelves, Reference Mailing Lists, Search Engine Insights, Evaluating Sites, and Book Resources.
Q's with A's is a table of contents for the questions discussed in the first half of the class, with resources as hyptertext links.
Practice Questions, questions for you to work on, gives hypertext links to both hints and to the answers that I found.
